Pharmacopeia's goal is to identify, optimize and develop highly efficacious small molecule drug candidates with low risk profiles and large market opportunities - with a primary focus on therapeutics for immunological diseases. We will achieve our goal by operating a balanced risk business strategy:
- Invest in our own discovery and development programs and drive these through to clinical validation before partnering the candidate with pharmaceutical companies. Pharmacopeia will be compensated for its innovation and effort primarily through license fees, milestones and royalties on drug sales.
- Collaborate with the pharmaceutical industry's current and emerging leaders to share the investment and the rewards associated with generating successful market outcomes for innovative new treatments.

We also leverage external innovation through the in-licensing of programs at stages of development that complement and balance our existing internal portfolio.
Pharmacopeia is currently focusing its own drug development on underlying biological processes implicated in immunological diseases. As a consequence one candidate molecule may offer successful treatments in several therapeutic areas. This strategy increases the potential value of each of our programs significantly as each may be developed for several distinct large markets.
Within our collaborative programs we take advantage of our broad drug discovery experience and the general applicability of our platform to focus on the therapeutic areas most aligned with our partners' clinical experience and commercialization strategies.
