In 2002 Pharmacopeia and Organon entered into a new discovery and development collaboration. A recent program within this collaboration, begun in early 2003, produced attractive lead compounds by fall of 2003. In early 2004 full optimization was launched at Pharmacopeia to produce a Development Candidate, with Organon supporting the effort with their extensive in vivo disease models and testing. In nine months Pharmacopeia delivered the development-ready compound to Organon, which is now in full regulatory toxicological testing prior to filing an IND. This short time frame serves as a tribute to the scientists at Pharmacopeia and to the power of collaboration. The same platform and expertise is now being applied to Pharmacopeia's own internal programs, but with the right partners we intend to continue to partner the platform within collaborative discovery programs. |
