Dr. Ford has spent his entire career, except for periods of academic training, in the pharmaceutical industry. He joined CIBA in 1960, following an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford, as a medicinal chemist. He became Executive Director, responsible for several of the early development activities, in the successor company CIBA-Geigy. In 1981 he left CIBA-Geigy to enter Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis and stayed in St Louis, following graduation, to train in internal medicine. Dr. Ford joined the clinical pharmacology group at Squibb in 1988 and became Executive Director of Clinical Pharmacology for the successor company Bristol-Myers Squibb. Following retirement from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2000, he formed Woodfield Clinical Consulting LLC and developed a diversified consulting practice, in which he remains active. Dr. Ford is boarded in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. He is on the editorial board of Medicinal Research Reviews and the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, UMDNJ, New Brunswick, NJ.
